Moments

A moment can be anything – something as simple as washing your hands or waking up, to a moment as complex as driving to the movies or playing basketball.

• In physics the term moment can refer to the tendency of a force to twist or rotate an object.
• In mathematics a moment is a quantitative measure of the shape of a set of points.
• For us a moment may be defined as a small portion of time or a point in time.
• It is a relatively brief period of time.
• It can be an important moment that is monumental in shaping or changing a person’s life.
• It can also be an ordinary moment that is often a routine part of daily life.

For the 2011 design competition all applicants are required to create ONE object or piece of art (2 or 3 dimensional) that expresses THREE moments during their day.

In addition to the requirements listed, we encourage applicants to submit five sketches or photos illustrating their creative process.

Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al Missned Scholarship for Creativity

The best two complete student applications will win the Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al Missned Scholarship for Creativity covering four years of tuition, housing, books and supplies to attend Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar and obtain a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

2009 VCUQatar Design Contest Winner

1. Competition is open to students in their final year 12th grade high school equivalent of secondary school. Students must graduate in May/June/July 2011 and enter Virginia Commonwealth University’s Qatar campus in August 2011.
2. Students can create the work using any media and any medium. However all submissions must be electronic. Students must scan in their 2D work or take a digital photograph of their 3D work. The submission must be a JPEG format file no larger than 800 x 1280 pixels at 72dpi with a total file size less than 2MB. All files should be uploaded to the admissions website. Files that can NOT be viewed as a JPEG will NOT be accepted. The words “2011 Student Design Competition Entry” followed by the title of the project must be entered in the text description box. Please provide at least a 100 word description of what your design shows.
3. Only one entry submission per student applicant is accepted. In case of multiple entries VCUQatar has the right to disqualify the entrant or entries.
4. VCUQatar is NOT responsible for any errors or inability to upload or receive files due to internet connection and/or power failures. VCUQatar will NOT reimburse entrants for any costs incurred to enter the competition.
5. VCUQatar reserves the right to use the entries in promotional materials print and/or electronic.
6. All files must be uploaded on or before the DEADLINE of March 1, 2011.
7. To be eligible for one of the two full four-year Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned Scholarships for Creativity at Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar, applicants must SUBMIT complete VCUQatar application including English competency test results (TOEFL/IELTS) and portfolio by March 1, 2011.

1. تفتح المسابقة أبوابها لطلاب السنة الدراسية النهائية (الثاني عشر - الثانوية العامة) والمتوقع تخرجهم في شهر مايو/ يونيو/ يوليو 2011 والذين سيستطيعون الالتحاق بجامعة فرجينيا كومنولث في قطر في شهر أغسطس 2011
2. يستطيع الطلاب المشاركون ابتكار مشروع المسابقة باستخدام أي وسائل أو مواد يرونها مناسبة. على أن يتم التقديم إلكترونيا . وعلى المشارك مسح عمله (تصويره) في حال الصور ثنائية الأبعاد أو أخذ صور فوتغرافية رقمية في حال المجسمات ثلاثية الأبعاد . وتقديم الملفات باستخدام ملف JPEG على أن لا يتعدى حجم الملف 800 1280 x بكسل في 72dpi وبحجم إجمالي أقل من 2 ميغابايت . على الجميع تحميل ملفاتهم على الموقع الإلكتروني للقبول. كما لن يتم النظر في أي ملف لم يتم تحميله باستخدام JPEG. يجب تعبئة مربع نص الوصف "Text box" ب "المسابقة المدرسية للتصميم 2011" يتبعها موضوع المسابقة . كما يرجى تقديم وصف للمشروع بما لا يقل عن 100 كلمة.
3. لا يقبل من كل متسابق أكثر من مشاركة واحدة في المسابقة . وفي حال وجود أكثر من مشاركة يحق لجامعة فرجينيا كومنولث في قطر إلغاء مشاركة الطالب.
4. لا تتحمل جامعة فرجينيا كومنولث في قطر مسؤولية أي خلل أو أخطاء أو عدم القدرة على تحميل أو استقبال الملفات نظرا لاتصال الإنترنت و / أو انقطاع التيار الكهربائي. كما لن تقوم جامعة فرجينيا كومنولث في قطر بتسديد أي تكاليف تكبدها المتسابق لدخول المنافسة.
5. تحتفظ جامعة فرجينيا كومنولث بالحق في استخدام أي من المشاركات في مواد الجامعة الترويجية المطبوعة و/ أو الإلكترونية.
6. يجب تحميل جميع الملفات قبل/ أو في موعد أقصاه 1 آذار / مارس 2011
7. للتأهل والحصول على منحة من منحتي سمو الشيخة موزة بنت ناصر المسند للإبداع للدراسة لمدة أربع سنوات في جامعة فرجينيا كومنولث في قطر ، يجب على المتقدمين تقديم أوراقهم وطلب التحقاهم كاملا للجامعة بما في ذلك تقديم متطلبات القبول مثل الملف الشخصي ونتائج اختبار كفاءة اللغة الإنجليزية (التوفل / الايلتس ) بموعد أقصاه 1 آذار / مارس، 2011.
